Moving to Platinum Visa
Yes, you'll need to activate your new card. For the smoothest experience, make a purchase in-store by inserting your card and entering your PIN. Activation instructions will be included when your card arrives.
If you moved from an Airpoints Platinum card and you currently have Apple Pay or Google Payâ„¢ set up, your new Platinum Visa automatically replaced your Airpoints card in your mobile wallet.
If you moved from an Airpoints Low Fee or Standard card, you'll need to set it up again. See our guides on how to do this.
Yes, your new Platinum Visa has the same PIN. If you'd like to change it, you can set a new PIN in the mobile app or internet banking.
If you were sent a Platinum Visa card but you've misplaced it, you can order a new one.
Insurance
Your new Platinum Visa card comes with built in travel insurance. To activate your cover, simply use your credit card to pre-pay for eligible travel costs within 12 months of your trip. You'll need to pre-pay at least $500 of travel costs for overseas travel, or $250 for domestic travel. Eligibility criteria apply.
Yes – if you've already activated cover using your Airpoints Platinum credit card, this will carry over to your Platinum Visa card. If you close your account or switch to another card type, you’ll lose this cover and won’t be able to make a claim.
The travel insurance policy was updated on 1 July 2025, so make sure you know which policy applies to your trip.
Purchases & payments
Not all regular payments were automatically carried to your new Platinum Visa as it depends on the business. We recommend adding your new card details to any regular payments or places where your old card might have been saved to avoid any disruptions.
When updating your payments, always go directly to the provider's official website or app when updating your card details. Don’t click on links in emails asking you to make updates. It’s the best way to avoid scams and keep your information secure.
While you're getting set up with Platinum Visa, transactions made with your old Airpoints card have been redirected to your new Platinum Visa. For transactions that are due to be processed after 31 October 2025, we recommend updating the payment with your new card details. This includes things such as online bookings made for holiday accommodation.
Any refunds or credits to your old Airpoints card have been automatically redirected to your new Platinum Visa. If you close your Platinum Visa before the refund is processed, we can transfer the money to another active Kiwibank account. To do this, send us a secure message via the mobile app or internet banking, or call us.
If you don't have an active Kiwibank account or we can't verify you over the phone, you'll need to visit your nearest Kiwibank. You'll need to bring your ID and proof of address with you.
Fees & charges
If you moved from an Airpoints Platinum credit card, the account fee will be charged on your November statement, and then every six months after that.
If you moved from an Airpoints Low Fee or Standard card, the account fee will be charged six months after your last fee.
This applies to joint/additional cardholder account fees as well.
All purchases that appear on your Platinum Visa, starting from your first Platinum Visa statement, will qualify for up to 55 days interest free.
All purchases and cash advances that appear on your new Platinum Visa, including any balance that moved over from your Airpoints account, will qualify for the new 12.90% p.a. interest rate.
Statements & transactions
You can find and download your previous Airpoints credit card statements in the statement vault within internet banking. See our step-by-step guide on how to do this.
Purchases made with your Airpoints card only show in your transaction history once processed. Pending transactions won’t appear, so start using your Platinum Visa straight away to avoid any confusion.
