You may be eligible for overseas travel insurance through your Platinum Visa or Air New Zealand Airpoints™ Platinum Visa.
Effective immediately, Tower has temporarily stopped issuing any new travel insurance policies. This is based on the advice of the New Zealand Government not to travel overseas due to COVID-19. Tower will continuously monitor travel restrictions to understand when they can resume offering cover under our Kiwibank credit cards.
If you’re a Kiwibank credit cardholder and are considering overseas travel, you need to be aware that you won’t be covered for travel to, from, or while staying in a location classified as ‘Do Not Travel’ by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT). The ‘Do Not Travel’ status is currently applicable to all overseas travel.
If you already have travel insurance through your Kiwibank Credit Card and are already overseas and can’t get home due to travel restrictions, you’re still covered by existing policy benefits. Tower is also able to consider extending the duration of cover available under your policy on a case-by-case basis. If you’re currently overseas and need assistance arranging travel home, please call Tower's Worldwide Emergency Assistance Service on +64 9 985 5000.
There is no cover available for any COVID-19 related claims.
Covers up to 40 days away. If you need cover for longer call us on 0800 521 521 before you go away.
Protection for your spouse and dependent children if they’re travelling with you.
24-hour worldwide emergency assistance.
Cover is provided by Tower Insurance Limited.
Overseas travel insurance will be activated if you use an eligible credit card to pay for at least one of these things: overseas travel tickets, one or more nights of pre-paid accommodation, a pre-paid rental car, pre-paid scheduled transport ticket or a pre-paid guided tour.
You have to be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident, be under 80 years old, be returning to New Zealand at the end of your trip, have an active Platinum Visa or Air New Zealand Platinum Visa for the duration of your trip.
Business trips are covered under some circumstances, but it would pay to check with Tower on 0800 845 010 for details.
Please contact us as soon as you can after something goes wrong.
