Complete the online form
If you're new to Kiwibank, fill in our online form which takes around 10 minutes to complete.

Verify it's you
When you've completed the online form, you'll need to verify who you are. You can do this using your smartphone or RealMe account. Otherwise you'll need to book an appointment at your nearest Kiwibank and take in some ID and proof of address.

Start using your accounts
Once you've been verified, you'll be able to do all the things you'd expect, like accessing money from your account and ordering a Visa Debit or EFTPOS card.

Switch to Kiwibank
We can help with switching all your accounts, moving your regular payments and arranging to close your accounts from your current bank.
If you’d rather have one of our banking specialists give you a hand, call us on 0800 523 523 to start the process over the phone or book a time at your nearest Kiwibank.
If you're an existing Kiwibank customer and you'd like to open a new account, log into internet banking or the mobile app and click on 'Apply & Open', or call us on 0800 113 355.
Joining over the phone is the easiest option
Here’s how:
- Call us on 0800 523 523 to start the process over the phone. Since you're opening an account for two people, we'll need to speak with both of you.
- If you don’t have an account with us yet, we’ll need to verify your identity and address. If you're new to Kiwibank, you may be able to verify yourself using ID Checker on your smartphone or make an appointment at your nearest Kiwibank branch or Local for Kiwibank and bring some ID and proof of address.
- Once you've been verified, you can start taking advantage of all the great benefits your new account offers.

Here’s how:
- Before heading into a branch, you'll need to make an appointment by calling us on 0800 523 523 to make an appointment at your nearest Kiwibank or Local for Kiwibank. Since you’re opening an account for two people, we need to see both of you in branch.
- We’ll need to verify your identity and address. Please bring your ID and proof of address to your appointment.
- Once you've been verified, your new account set up is complete.
Give us a call to get started
Here’s how:
- Call us on 0800 523 523 to get your child's account set up or to make an appointment to do this in your nearest Kiwibank. Since your child's account will be linked to yours, we'll need to set up a profile for you as well (unless you already have one).
- Before your child can use their new account, we'll organise a time for to visit nearest Kiwibank or Local for Kiwibank. During this visit, you'll verify you and your child's identity and address, and that you're the child’s parent or legal guardian.
- Please ensure you bring your ID and proof of address as well as proof of relationship, such as an original birth certificate, passport with the same surname, court order or letter from Oranga Tamariki - Ministry for Children to your appointment.
- Once we've set up your child's account, you’ll be able to see their account in internet banking or the mobile app. The types of things they can access will depend on how old they are.
Opening an account before you arrive is the easiest option if you:
