With direct debits, you give organisations the authority to take regular payments from your account automatically, so you don't have to worry about remembering to make a payment.

How it works

  • Direct debit payments can be for variable or fixed amounts.

  • You can set payments to be paid from Free Up, Now, Bill Blaster, Front Runner, Back-up Saver or revolving home loan accounts. A direct debit set up fee may apply.

  • When you’re paying bills by direct debit and the amount changes each month (e.g. power or phone bills), the organisation you’re paying needs to let you know how much the payment will be, usually at least 10 days before it comes out of your account.

Setting up a direct debit

  • To set up a direct debit payment, ask the organisation you’ll be paying for a direct debit form, then fill it out and return it to them – they’ll do the rest.
  • To automatically make regular payments on your Kiwibank credit card each month to an amount of your choice, download and complete our Credit card direct debit authority form.
  • To change or cancel, contact the organisation you’re making payments to and discuss your needs with them, or contact us and we’ll cancel it for you.

Avoid failed payments

Sometimes, for whatever reason, you may not have enough money in your account to cover a payment, which can result in your payment failing.

  • For future payments, you need to make sure there’s enough money in your account on the day to cover the payment. Otherwise the payment will fail.
  • We can't tell you when payments are due, as the organisation you’re paying controls that.
