International transaction fee

When you use your credit card for a foreign currency transaction that is processed overseas

  • 1.85% of the total amount

You can expect to pay the International Transaction Fee when using your card abroad, and also when in New Zealand if you are shopping with a merchant that processes transactions overseas. Transactions may still be processed overseas, even if the merchant has a website address ending in ‘.co.nz’ and charges you in New Zealand Dollars (NZD). If so, the transaction will incur the fee. Please check with the merchant if it is not clear where a transaction is processed.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I see my cashback?

It will appear as a transaction on your credit card statement. It will show on the first statement issued after the payment date, so it may not appear on your next statement if that statement is generated before the cashback is paid.

What are the spend quarters?
  • 1 Jan - 31 Mar
  • 1 Apr - 30 Jun
  • 1 Jul - 30 Sep
  • 1 Oct - 31 Dec

Cashback will be paid in the quarter following each spend quarter.

How is cashback calculated?

Kiwibank Cashback Rewards are calculated on a net spend basis. Net spend is defined as the total cleared purchases minus returns within the quarter. Cashback will only be applied to transactions that are settled and cleared, and only refunds or returns processed within the same quarterly window will reduce the net spend amount accordingly. You can use the earn rate to calculate this with the total net spend.

Are there any types of transactions that are not eligible for cashback?

Eligible purchases exclude money orders; cash advances or ATM withdrawals, balance transfers, fees, interest, traveller's cheques, foreign currency cash, government charges, gambling transactions including online gambling, and transactions that're reversed, refunded or changed back.

How can I switch my Kiwibank business credit card?

To switch between Kiwibank business credit card types, complete the business credit card switch form and email it to business.banking@kiwibank.co.nz or your Relationship Manager.
