App notifications help you securely approve important actions in the Kiwibank mobile app, like logging in to internet banking.

How it works

When we need to confirm it’s you, we’ll send a notification to your device.

Open the app and approve the request.

You’ll only receive a notification when you’re completing an action, such as logging in to internet banking or authorising a payment.

Before you start

To use app notifications, you'll need:

  • The Kiwibank mobile app set up on your device.
  • Notifications turned on for the app and your device.

Set up app notifications

App notifications are enabled when you set up the app. To make sure they work, check your notification settings:

  1. Log in to the mobile app.
  2. Tap 'More' at the bottom of your screen.
  3. Tap 'Settings'.
  4. Tap 'Notifications'.
  5. If notifications aren't enabled, tap 'Go to settings' and turn on notifications for the Kiwibank app on your device.
  6. Make sure 'Important alerts' are turned on.

To receive app notifications, keep notifications enabled for the Kiwibank app on your device.

Stay safe with app notifications

Only approve requests you made. If you receive a notification you weren’t expecting, decline it.

If you think someone may be trying to access your account, change your password and contact us immediately.

Common questions

Why am I seeing an app notification instead of a KeepSafe question?

We're introducing app notifications as a new way to verify it's you when you log in to internet banking. If you see an app notification, it's a genuine Kiwibank security check and an expected part of logging in.

Can I still use KeepSafe?

Yes. If you'd prefer to use KeepSafe, or can't use the app, select 'Choose another way to verify' during login and choose 'KeepSafe'.

What if I don’t receive a notification?

Check the following:

  • Notifications turned on for the app and your device
  • You have an internet connection.
  • You're using the latest version of the app. Check the App Store or Google Play Store for updates.

If you still don't receive a notification, select 'Choose another way to verify' to see your available options.

Who receives the app notification for joint or business accounts?

The app notification is sent to the mobile app registered to the access number being used to log in. This applies whether you're accessing personal, joint or business accounts.

Why can't I see this option to verify?

You'll only see verification methods that are available to you. For example, you'll need to have the Kiwibank mobile app set up on your device to use app notifications.
