Government guaranteed loan
The Government is providing support for businesses impacted by the 2023 severe weather events in the North Island. We're participating, along with other banks, in this scheme by offering the Government guaranteed loan. Find out more about this scheme on the Treasury website.
How it works

Purpose of the loan
The Government loan guarantee is intended to assist businesses highly impacted by the North Island weather events year.

Location of your business
Your business needs to be located (in whole or in part) in Northland, Auckland, Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Tairawhiti, Hawkes Bay, Tararua, or Wairarapa.

Impact to your business
You'll need to be able to provide information and supporting evidence on how your business has been impacted e.g. a decrease in cashflow, revenue or asset value as a result of these events.

Repaying your loan
If your loan is approved, it will be repayable over a five year term (maximum).

Eligibility
You'll need to be a Kiwibank customer and meet the criteria outlined in the Government loan guarantee scheme application form. You'll only be able to apply for a guaranteed loan with one bank.

If your business is a local authority, a council-controlled organisation or a council organisation you won't be eligible.
