How to avoid invoicing scams

    Take a moment to pause and properly review each invoice before processing payment.

    Verify the account details

    • Look for inconsistencies against previous invoices, or for new suppliers, take extra time to verify invoice and payment details.
    • A new service called Confirmation of Payee will soon be available to check if the account owner name matches the account number of the person or business you're paying.

    Call the business

    Call the business that sent the invoice to confirm the account details. Get the phone number from an official business channel, not the invoice - e.g. their website.

    Appoint a payment person or team

    Limit the number of people processing invoices. Ensure they are trained with the skills to identify and avoid invoicing scams.

Anyone can fall for a scam. If you suspect that you've been scammed, get in touch with us as soon as possible.
