How it works

Legal Access Services is made up of a panel of solicitors from law firms from all over New Zealand. They’re all approved members of the New Zealand Law Society.

Ask a question

The solicitors aim to respond by email within three business days, but if your question is more complex, it may take up to five. They may also choose to call you instead of replying by email if your issue is complicated.

You can ask them for advice on things like:

  • business structures
  • business contracts
  • interpreting business documents
  • company law
  • debt recovery
  • product warranties and liability
  • resolving business disputes
  • liabilities of company directors
  • trade practises
  • protecting business assets
  • intellectual property
  • leases.

They can also give advice on personal legal matters.

You can use the service as many times as you like — but please note you can only make one enquiry per legal matter.

What it costs

The initial email or phone response is free.

If any documents need to be prepared or signed, a separate charge may apply. If the issue needs to be followed up or investigated further, the solicitor can offer you a free face-to-face consultation. Legal work after this will cost — the amount will depend on the firm the solicitor belongs to.
