With direct debits, you give organisations the authority to take regular payments from your account automatically, so you never have to worry about missing a payment yourself. Direct debits can be for variable or fixed amounts.
When you’re paying bills by direct debit and the amount changes each month (e.g. power or phone bills) the organisation you’re paying needs to let you know how much the payment will be at least 10 days before it comes out of your account.
Setting up a direct debit is easy. Ask the organisation you’ll be paying for a direct debit form, fill it out and return it to them — they’ll do the rest.
To change or cancel a direct debit payment, contract the organisation you’re making payments to and discuss your needs with them, or call us on
0800 11 33 55 and we'll cancel it for you.
