Studying

We all know students are strapped for cash, whether you're at high school, polytech or uni. If you're struggling to stretch to that extra tin of baked beans, have a look at our tips to help make managing your money easier.

You should also check out our great value youth account options if you're still at school, or if you're a tertiary student, Kiwibank's Tertiary Pack is designed to save you money.

Planning for tertiary study

Before you can decide what, where and when you want to study, you need to ask yourself a few important questions.

Talk to people who've studied at tertiary level about student life - the courses as well as the parties.

Applying for loans and allowances

It's best to apply for student loans and allowances well ahead of time. You can apply online on the StudyLink website. Even if you get an allowance, think about working part-time or in your holidays. The less student debt you have, the better.

Managing your finances

Life as a student isn't cheap. The best way to make your money stretch is to make a budget and stick to it.

It's also a good idea to get into the saving habit early. Anytime you get pocket money or pay from a part-time job, try to put at least some of it into a savings account.

Kiwibank's Tertiary Pack includes an interest free overdraft, no monthly account or transaction fees and a low interest rate credit card.
