Youth accounts

If you’re under 18, we’ve got some great accounts to help you manage and save your money, so you'll be able to get more of the things you want in the future. And there are no account management or transaction fees!

Our First Saver account will give you a head start on savings, and the Now account is perfect for your everyday banking needs.

First Saver:

  • Earn interest on every dollar deposited, no minimum balance required
  • You can personalise your account name, like 'Stacey's Bike Account'
  • No account management or transaction fees
  • Available for anyone up to 18 years old
  • Kiwibank has a guarantee under the New Zealand deposit guarantee scheme. Further information about the deposit guarantee scheme is available from the Treasury website.

Now account:

  • No account management or transaction fees for anyone up to 18 years old
  • You can get a Visa Debit Card if you’re 15 years or over. It works like a standard ATM/EFTPOS card but can be used online, over the phone and overseas.
  • Full access to internet, phone and mobile banking for anyone 13 years or over
  • Information-only access to internet banking for children aged under 13 (you can’t transact online)
  • ATM/EFTPOS card for anyone 13 years or over. If you’re aged between 10 and 13 you can get a card with parental consent.
  • Join on the phone
  • Join at a local Kiwibank

Eligibility

The older you get, the more services you can enjoy. Anyone 13 years or over can have full access to internet, phone and mobile banking, and with a Now account, anyone aged 10 or over can apply for an ATM/EFTPOS card.

Parents and guardians please note - accounts are opened in the child's name but with different account set up options available, based on the age of the child.
